Love spells

Everyone wants a love spell. No matter what form of witchcraft you practise, you will sooner or later find yourself having to deal with a love spell, either because someone asks you to perform it or because you want  to do it for yourself. A reasonable quantity of love spells is available online and in specialised books, so this post will not give actual spells but it will rather provide hints on the different kinds of love spells, the way they work and their effectiveness.


First of all, let's clear the ground from misunderstanding: you will never make someone who does not love you, or has any other feeling for you, fall in love with you. You must have something to work on in order to produce a love spell, some latent feeling in the person you are acting on, or some form of interest. In my experience, in the best case scenario, ' love spells which have no basis on which to blossom end in one, or maybe several, night stands: there is not enough wood for a decent fire, and everything will result in a quick-burning flame. If it is love you are looking for, this can be quite depressing (blow of return, anyone?). Similarly, trying to attract someone whose sexual orientation does not match yours is never a good idea, and it usually results in no more than a big mess.

All love spells rely on crescent moon and venusian/martian/mercurian herbs such as vervain, rose, dog rose, vanilla, cardamom, cumin, juniper berries, cumin.

So after the ritual warning, let's see three different kinds of love spell, which I have arbitrarily classified as Charm Spells, Love Callings and Bindings.

Charm Spells
The aim of a charm spell is to make yourself more attractive, so that the person(s) you are interested in will finally make that damn move. Charm spells are only focused on the practitioner, and they do not normally involve any other person, as they work on you personality and self-confidence. The easiest charm spells include ritual baths with special herbs and oils, followed by ointments and perfumes which will be prepared at the occasion. For example, a long rose bath with the appropriate soap, followed by a body lotion of rose and vervain may bring good results. The appropriate elements can also be ritualised into a talisman to bring always on oneself, or in a perfume. These spells are the simplest ones, and they may be very effective on someone with a low level of self-confidence.

Charm spells can also be addressed at increasing the way one specific person is attracted by us. This can be done without a witness of the person, but then the witch should be able to really keep his mind focused.. However, this kind of charm spell is already a light form of love calling.

Love Callings
I call these 'love callings' because it seemed to me the most appropriate name for this kind of spell. These are my personal favourite, and this kind of spell has proved itself as effective and bearer of little or no blow of return. The idea is to come to terms with some entity related to love and passion (Aphrodite, Astarte, Juno, Hecate in my personal pantheon) and to give offers in exchange for love encounters. You should make clear what type of encounter you are looking for, and specify it at the right moment (the love of your life? a one night stand?). According to what you desire, you will focus on one specific entity (i.e. Aphrodite if it is about a one night stand, Juno if you want to find someone to start a family with) and you will give the appropriate offerings. These spells work like fishing, if you choose the right offerings and the right words, you'll have the right bait and you'll catch the right fish.

A love calling can also be directed to one person, in order to make him or her think of us as objects of desire. In this case, using a witness is useful, and you will ask for him to think of you and to desire you, but be aware of what you're doing and do not cause strings that you cannot untie afterwards. The true way of binding someone to you, is through a binding.

Bindings
Bindings are things that witches do in order to impose their wills on others. In Italian we call these legamenti and fattura also has a similar meaning. The purpose of a love binding is literally to bind two persons together, so that heir lives might continue together from the binding on. The easiest version of this (and I am breaking no news as similar spells are published all over the place) is to take the pictures of the subjects and bring them face to face, then to bind them with a red string and nine knots.  This basic concept is the fundamental of all bindings. Effective bindings must always involve witnesses of the subjects involved, the more accurate the better. These rituals can last for months, and be very exhausting for the witch who practices them. A sensible witch does not bind herself. I know of no-one who has done so, and I would never do it on myself. Binding other people leaves the practitioner relatively safe to watch the outcome play out, but this may depend on the consent of at least one of the parties involved.

If there is one thing I would advice against, thiis is a love bindings. They normally end miserably, and tend to produce obsessive behaviours, paranoia , consuming relationships and stalking. This is the reason why many witches dispose of the spell in a place where the materials can be retrieved again and the work undone if needed. There is no reason why a sane practitioner, who is aware of the results, will do one such spell on herself. Doing it for others can be a good learning experience.
